Vikings Have No Interest In Miami's Taylor
Despite rumors to the contrary, the Vikings are not interested in the services of Jason Taylor, according to a report in The Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
The defensive end, who is believed to have been made available by the Dolphins, has yet to report to the team but claims that he will be in training camp later this summer.
Horn Skips Workouts, Team Functions
Falcons' wide receiver Joe Horn has decided to skip all workouts and team functions this spring unless they are mandatory, according to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
"These are optional workouts right now, and Joe's option is he chose not to be here," Falcons' Coach Mike Smith said Thursday. "There's not really anything we can do about that. You'd like to have all your guys here, but the [collective bargaining agreement] is pretty concrete in what we can do and can't do."
Earlier this month Horn expressed a desire to be traded from the team because he felt the Falcons planned on using their young receivers this season.
Taylor Won't Rejoin Miami Until September
Jason Taylor isn't expected to rejoin the Dolphins until after training camp, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
Coach Tony Sparano was expected to make an announcement on Thursday confirming that the defensive end intends to skip all team activities between now and the start of the 2008 season.
"I know that Jason is not going to be at any organized team activities," Sparano said. "I know that Jason is not going to be at any minicamps. And I know that right now, Jason is not going to be at training camp. That's what we know."
The move seems to be Taylor's latest in an attempt to get the team to trade him.
"Jason is a player under contract with the Miami Dolphins. He knows that. Both parties are well aware of the information. That's all I'm going to say about it." Sparano added.
Browns Seeking Help In The Secondary
Browns general manager Phil Savage is reportedly seeking help for the team's thin secondary, according to The Plain Dealer.
Savage as all but ruled out signing 14-year veteran Ty Law and Philadelphia's Lito Sheppard, who has been offered in numerous trades and it seeking a new contract.
He inquired about both, but the price appeared to be too high for the organization.
"We've got the cap space," Savage said. "The issue for the 'big-name player' would be the actual cash out the door, budget-wise. We're pretty much pressed up against our budget internally, so that's going to eliminate certain players, unless they have a change of heart. You don't really expect that at this point. It's only May 20. Maybe that changes by the time we get to training camp."
Bears Looking To Deal Ricky Manning Jr.?
There are rumors swirling that the Bears could be looking to deal cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. as they contemplate replacing him at nickel back, according to The Chicago Tribune.
Danieal Manning, a tremendous athlete, was used as the nickel back during the team's training activities on Wednesday.
He has a knack for the ball, which could keep his value up in the trade market.
Atlanta's Horn Wants To Be Traded
Falcons wide receiver Joe Horn wants to be traded, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"I want to win a Super Bowl and I want to win a Super Bowl here in Atlanta, but I don?t think I can help this team win a Super Bowl sitting on the bench, waiting for third down," Horn said.
"They?re going with the younger guys and I don?t have a problem with that if that?s the course they?ve chosen. I want to have an opportunity to play with a team that needs a veteran to play and contribute and who helps the young guys," the former Saint added.
Gilbride Says Shockey's Future Up For Grabs
Kevin Gilbride recently told Jeremy Shockey that he wants the tight end back as a featured part of the Giants offense, according to a report in The New York Daily News.
However, the team's offensive coordinator also admitted that he doesn't know if that can, or will, happen.
"It's so nebulous right now, you just have no idea," Gilbride said. "Right now he's on our team. We're planning on him being there. He'll be one of the guys that we'll look to feature and one of the guys that we'll look to depend on. Hopefully he'll be here in good spirits and ready to do the things that we know he's capable of doing. But who knows? It's certainly beyond my hands."
Gilbride didn't release the details, but he did admit that he spoke with Shockey and said: "I hope he comes back, and if he does come back I'm looking forward to working with him, and I think his coaches and teammates all feel like I do, that we'll be a better football team because he's here. I just wanted to make sure he understood that."
Ellis: Dallas Could Trade Williams
Dallas defensive end Greg Ellis doesn't think safety Roy Williams fits in with the team anymore, and believes that the Cowboys could trade the former Oklahoma star, according to The San Antonio Express-News.
"He said, ?Greg, this defense does not fit me. I don?t fit in well with this defense at all,? " the Dallas Morning News? Web site quoted Ellis as saying. "So when he told me that, I was like, ?Well, man, it?s still new. Get used to it, and it?ll probably be fine for you.? And, obviously, I think it came to be true. Just like he said, he doesn?t fit what?s going on here in Dallas right now.? "
Ellis expressed his optimism that Williams could adapt this season, while also hinting that Dallas could trade the safety.
"Now maybe this year, if they decide to keep him for this season, Wade and them will kind of adjust some things to fit him better," Ellis said.
Williams has made five-straight Pro Bowls.
Roy Williams: 'I Thought I'd Be Out Of Here'
Lions' receiver Roy Williams admitted after practice on Wednesday that he believed the team was going to trade him this offseason, according to The Detroit Free Press.
"From all the rumors, I thought I was out of here. Just from listening to everything. But then I listened to Coach saying I wasn't going nowhere, so that reassured me that I wasn't going anywhere," Williams said.
There were rumors swirling that Williams was close to being dealt to both the Eagles and Cowboys this winter.
"I mean, I don't think it was zero percent chance I wasn't going anywhere. I think if somebody would have come with something that could have benefited the Lions, I think I would have been out of here," Williams added.
Parcells Wanted Bobby Carpenter
When the Miami Dolphins made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for tight end Anthony Fasano before the draft, they also wanted Bobby Carpenter.
According to an NFL source, the Dolphins wanted Carpenter, but the Cowboys weren't willing to part with the 2006 first-round draft pick, so Dallas included linebacker Akin Ayodele in the deal instead.
"This is still a great opportunity for me, and [inside linebacker] is a place where I think I can use my athletic ability to make plays," Carpenter said. "If I'm going to have a shot to play, I want it to be here."
Sheppard Reports To Eagles' Camp
Cornerback Lito Sheppard reported to Philadelphia's mandatory minicamp on Friday, ending rumors that he might hold out until the team either trades him or gives him a new contract.
Eagles Now Looking To Keep Lito?
It appears as though the Eagles now want to keep cornerback Lito Sheppard in town after a month or so of trade rumors.
